The hobby?

Firstly I think this will come off better as a vlog but I think the discussion will be better here.

Why do you hobby?

In my opinion there are three/four parts to the wargamer hobby

1. The first part is collecting which can be  for a completionist reason or just picking up the models you like

2. Painting - if you want to paint competition worthy pieces or just tabletop pieces.

3. Gaming. Not going into more detail play how ever you for whatever reason.

4. Background - I realise most people will not be interested based on a games fluff but for me it's a deal breaker so it's obviously the facet of our hobby that is highly important to me

That's not to say the other parts are not important and they all have the edge at times but fluff for me is the driver

Games I really like have lots of history or back-story that I can absorb myself into and games lacking in this area I struggle with.

I have an extremely addictive personality so when I get into something properly I am all in I may not want to collect everything but if it's for my faction I want it including the rare things this is when collecting becomes my highest importance.

Painting is my hobby time, I am not the best painter but I am mostly happy with my results and I spend a lot of time looking at techniques to try and improve.  I spend more time painting and building models than anything else yet its not really ever my most important part of my hobby

now for something I rarely do I mean like at  most frequent once a month but more likely quarterly, gaming features as my highest focus I will only collect models if its towards an end goal of playing a game which is why many of my models sit in a box.

so my hobby time is probably split 50% Fluff, 49% painting and 1% Gaming

So I hobby to game yet rarely do so or I hobby for the fluff for playing in so I actually have an end goal based on gaming  a theme based on fluff that also allows me to paint. I prefer the second thought to the first as otherwise I spend a lot of time preparing for nothing.

Models or minis

So do you buy models purely based on gaming possibilities or because you like them?

do you play games because they have a low cost to get into? Or purely because the look amazing?

Now I play GW games because of availability of players and models along side high quality. the GW plastics are beautiful and with variety of poses no one comes close.

I also play Malifaux which is in my opinion the only company that can compare in quality of plastics to GW but mono-pose minis is its only downside.

but when you expand into wider areas like resin and metals there are loads of companies that make beautiful models

I like to be able to use my models so rarely will I buy a model only for painting I have but its rare and then its normally something I may like to use in an RPG

Update and what to play on friday

So a friend of mine is coming down the club on Friday and we said we would play a game of something

Check out his blog https://pritalus.wordpress.com/

So we chatted about possibilities and came up with the following

  • Dropzone Commander - i have a growing Resistance force and a starter for Scourge and my friend is just building his first Scourge force so we put that to one side until he has built more.
  • Malifaux - I have 2 forces and its an awesome game but due to other games already on his list we couldn't play this.
  • Warzone Resurrection - The game that always maybe is, i love this game and consider it possibly the best game i have ever played in its design but my army is still not finished and my friend has packed his away so whilst we say we will play i am unsure it will ever happen.
  • Wolsung - A game both of us want to play i even have a painted starter but he is still waiting on kickstarter to get delivered so another "we will play"
  • Firestorm Planetfall - a game i would like to try but unfortunately i was unaware that my friends who own the game are yet to actually play it so another no.
  • Bolt Action - unfortunately my armies are not yet ready
  • Warhammer 40K - The old faithful, everyone knows it and almost everyone plays it i have a number of armies and hauling them out for an evening is easy and quick so perhaps this is the perfect game especially when you consider the last game of anything was a fun "kill the knight" game back in December
From there where do you go i have all these games and others that when it comes down to it i don't play more than a handful of times and i have Warhammer 40K that i bash a lot but have great fun i love the fluff and the minis and when compared to the likes of malifaux easily comparable in quality but more pose-able than the mono-pose Malifaux.

So recently i have been working on my 30K heresy wolves and i love them alongside my 40K demons of Nurgle.

My collected Heresy wolves at the moment there is 1300 pts excluding the knight that's painted but have more tactical marines and and assault squad to add and a Typhon Siege tank due on my birthday

This is a couple of pictures of my (Glotkin) Great unclean one that also shows an old metal Plaguebearer for a size comparison loved painting this.

So Friday 40K and then Warhammer world on the 1st March for my birthday quite excited
